One of the most sweeping new federal laws that impact contractors in all states went into effect April 2010. These regulations, established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), require that contractors, renovation builders, or home maintenance personnel undergo certification training for maintaining a lead-free painting environment when working on dwellings, schools, or child care centers built prior to 1978.
